How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s production of collagen. A series of injections is given over a period of time until desired results are achieved.

Although immediate results may appear after the very first Sculptra injection, this is due to temporary swelling, which quickly subsides, and water (used for dilution), which is absorbed by surrounding tissues. True, lasting, visible results do not occur until after several treatments, usually after about three weeks. The semi-permanent effects of Sculptra can last up to two years, with minor touch-up treatments sometimes being necessary.

Possible side-effects

Reactions to any injection can sometimes occur. Possible side effects can include pain, redness, swelling, and bruising, which typically lasts from three to 17 days. Around six to 12 months after the first injection, small bumps could form, felt when skin is pressed, but not seen. They occasionally go away spontaneously. Reports have also been made of small, visible bumps, and as with all injection sites, the risk of infection, though small, is present.
