Radiesse

Serving Houston, Pearland, Sugar Land - Texas

Radiesse HoustonFor many years in the past, calcium hydroxylapatite has been used by surgeons as prosthetic implants for dental, facial and orthopedic surgery. Now Radiesse, a new injectable filler product, consisting of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in an aqueous gel carrier (carboxymethycellulose), is being used for smoothing and contouring smile lines or nasolabial folds, wrinkles at the corner of the mouth, vertical lip lines, acne scars, facial defects or recessions, frown lines, restoring volume in and around the cheeks, providing lip definition and modest enhancement or correcting asymmetrical features.

The advantage of Radiesse over others is that it has a longer lasting effect and does not require a waiting period for allergy testing. This is due to it's content of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a normal constituent of bone and does not elicit a chronic inflammatory or immune response, as does some other injectable fillers.

In addition, Radiesse remains soft and takes on the characteristic of the surrounding tissue. Over time, usually about three months, the body forms collagen around the microspheres that add bulk, which replaces the Radiesse for a long-lasting effect, which is normally around two years. Some patients report the effect lasting as long as three years or more.

Radiesse injections are performed using a mild localized anesthetic to eliminate any pain associated with the treatment, and normally wears off shortly after the procedure. Patients report there is no pain afterwards. Some patients report a minor inflammation or swelling, which is due to the expansion of facial tissue, and seldom lasts longer than 24-hours. Brief application of ice will improve this temporary condition.

Radiesse has been safely injected in over 30,000+ patients worldwide without any report of adverse reactions. The only complications reported have been with large volumes used for lip augmentation with lumpiness or small nodules occurring several days after treatment. Patients report that these type of complications have been satisfactorily resolved clinically within 30-60 days. It is recommended that smaller volume lip augmentation be performed.
