Brow Lifts Create a Dramatic Younger, Refreshed Appearance

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Are you waking up with puffy bags under the eyes or saggy eyelids?  We’ve all been there.  Sometimes they’re caused by stress, a late night, or seasonal allergies, but when you wake up to puffy bags or sagging eyelids every day, it’s time to consider a brow lift (blepharoplasty).  Under eye bags and sagging eyelids make you look old and tired before your time.  Even if you are old and tired, Dr. Lapuerta can create a fresh, revitalized look with a brow lift procedure.  There are four eyelids all together – each eye has an upper and lower lid.  Dr. Lapuerta will evaluate your eyelids and determine what is right for you as some patients only need upper or lower lid surgery, while some need both for maximum results.  The procedure involves removing excess tissue from the eyelids.  A brow lift can make a dramatic difference in your appearance.  Make time to visit any one Dr. Lapuerta’s Houston area locations, which also include Pearland and Katy, Texas.

Can a Brow Lift Improve Your Vision and Your Looks?

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Droopy eyelids are caused by excess fat, skin or atrophied muscles.  All of these conditions can cause a hooded eye appearance.  Some patients notice that their upper eyelids have disappeared into the fat in their upper eye area.  This is called fat herniation, and it is a normal part of the aging process.  However, it makes us look old and tired.  For women, this condition makes it difficult to enhance our beauty with eye make-up and mascara.  Some patients have so much excess or droopy tissue that it blocks their peripheral vision.   A brow lift is performed by removing the excess fat and skin around the eyelids, and this procedure can actually improve the patient’s vision in some instances.  Houston area cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leo Lapuerta is triple board certified and has extensive experience in performing brow lift surgeries.  The doctor has three Houston area locations including Pearland and Katy, Texas.

Questions about Blepharoplasty

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

What is the goal of blepharoplasty?

As we age, our upper and lower eyelids begin to droop. Blepharoplasty, commonly called eyelid surgery, is designed to restore a rested , more friendly, and alert appearance. Your eyes will look refreshed and reflect your natural youthfulness.

Does eyelid surgery remove crow’s feet?

No. Eyelid surgery is not designed to eliminate crow’s feet. Rather its purpose is to remove fat and excess skin. In some cases, it may also involve tightening the muscles of the upper eyelids. Crow’s feet are best addressed with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

Will I have scars after eyelid surgery?

Dr. Lapuerta uses a surgical technique that minimizes scarring. The incisions are in the normal creases and folds of your eyelids. For the lower lids, they may even be located on the inside of the eyelid. Over several months even these scars become practically invisible.

Is blepharoplasty just a cosmetic procedure?

No. There are medical reasons why some people need eyelid surgery. In some cases, a person’s eyelids droop so severely that the excess skin can interfere with their ability to see and, in severe cases, can completely block their vision. In cases like this, blepharoplasty can be deemed medically necessary.
